Artist Statement

Since 2012, I have dedicated myself to exploring the unique fusion of glass and brass in my art. Combining these materials is not just a creative choice but a reflection of my passion for the chemistry and physics behind their interactions.

Inspired by everyday objects such as brass doorknobs, I was struck by the patina-like dark blue tones that emerged when glass and brass were melted together. This surprising reaction felt like uncovering a hidden world of beauty. The resulting colors—ranging from deep blues to shades of green, black, and brown—reflect the complex interplay of chemical reactions and corrosion, creating textures and patterns reminiscent of patina.

Growing up, I was always drawn to the aesthetics of weathered and aged objects—things that bore the marks of time, rust, and decay. This fascination informs my work, where I aim to capture the poetic beauty of withered and imperfect forms.

Drawing on my background in solid-state physics, I approach each piece as both an artistic creation and an experiment. I am captivated by the "drama" that unfolds at the microscopic level where glass meets brass, and I strive to express this boundary's dynamic tension and harmony.

In addition to my kiln-cast work, I also explore the fluidity and spontaneity of blown glass, incorporating intricate three-dimensional designs. These two techniques allow me to balance precision and improvisation, pushing the boundaries of what can be expressed through this unique material combination.

Through my art, I seek to inspire others with the transformative beauty of glass and brass, honoring their individuality while celebrating their union.
