Cooper Capitani

Artist Statement

My name is Cooper Capitani and I am currently a senior at Vintage High School in Napa, California.
I’ve been creating art basically my whole life. I have decided my next step is to attend art college and earn my bachelors of art. I have applied and been accepted to art colleges in San Francisco, Seattle and Baltimore.

I always love to see and learn of other techniques that other artists use to get their point across, as it can help inspire me to do just as great as the other artists, despite our mediums of art. Other inspirations toward my art are children's books, specifically Mr Frog and Toad due to how simple and comforting they can be in their art style. Another inspiration I have with my art is cartoons; with some of the most inspiration coming from The Amazing World of Gumball, Scavengers Reign, and primal. How they make and show to the world they have made is incredible and the many different art styles of Gumball feels so fun to do. Which is why I love to experiment with different mediums.

During the summer of 2023 I decided to go to The Oxbow School of art in Napa, California, which is where I live. My final Project for that summer was a three-sided triangle tapestry displaying three different prints meant to show how a viewer's perspective could change how a story is told.
The next year in 2024 I decided to return and do a full semester at The Oxbow School. My final project for that time was a miniature bar with resin modeled characters that represented greed and gluttony. After my semester at Oxbow I was inspired by some YouTube channels to try doing more sculptures than paintings and started to make sculptures that were centered around a little world I made in my head.

Currently that's where I am at for my art and I am curious to continue to explore other types of mediums which I am hoping will be part of my college journey.
