Artist Statement
I always liked to draw and I remember as a young girl my parents gave me books on how to draw and I used to practice using pencil and charcoal. In both high school and college I took art classes and minored in Art History in college. As I started my family, drawing and painting fell by the wayside and not until after my children were out of the house and I had more time for myself I found my way back to taking art lessons. I first started with some classes in Jamesburg working in oils.
When the teacher closed down his classes I was lucky enough to find a new teacher, Susan Winter, at Art Station in Hightstown. I fell in love with art classes all over again. I relish coming to class. I first painted in oils but as time passed Susan encouraged me to try pastels. I had never experienced this medium before but I fell in love with them. The colors are so vibrant and I enjoy the fact that you can incorporate different mediums with the pastels. Although I will paint different types of compositions I prefer to paint pictures that have the human figure in them. More than anything I adore being in class with my fellow students who encourage me in my work.
