Artist Statement
My ceramic sculptures, deeply rooted in the wabi sabi philosophy, embrace the beauty found in imperfection. I have been exploring the Raku firing technique, which leads to textures and finishes that reflect the spontaneity and unpredictability of the process. A recurring theme in my work is the form of the female trunk, a tribute to my journey as a breast cancer survivor. These sculptures celebrate resilience and transformation, capturing the raw, physical and emotional landscapes of survival and healing.
As a physical therapist and Aikido practitioner for over 20 years, I have always been fascinated by shaping, healing, and body movement. My former focus on healing and moving bodies now translates into my pottery, where I see what my hands, heart, eyes, and mind can create. Through my art, I continue my lifelong exploration of the human form, expressing its beauty, strength, vulnerability and imperfection.
