Artist Statement
My work with landscapes centers on the mysterious beauty of swamplands and forests. Reflected tree configurations, unique patterns in the undergrowth, and contrasting textures of foliage within shallow pools are my underlying vision. I go on many photo walks and my favorite time is after a rain when the colors of the trees and plants are more intense. There is an almost ethereal feel in the untrodden areas, and I often am enticed off main trails to explore the inner depths of these areas and the murky waters. Through my images I strive to capture this intimacy, along with the subdued light and dark shadows.
I have also been exploring abstract layered collages. While intentionally editing gently, I strive to retain the colors as captured in camera while playing with the differing opacity layers. To create a harmonious collection of differing mediums in nature such as rippling water and leaves or dry remnants of winter foliage against a warm glow of light has stemmed from a daydream I had when younger. To this day, I love the idea of bringing a touch of magic to my nature landscape images.
I also enjoy doing various portrait work. And love to collaborate on shoots for the empowerment of women.
Note: It is very important to me to avoid AI whenever possible. At times, I remove objects for the purpose of creating more artistic flow in my work.
