Artist Statement
For me, the diaspora was an experience inherited from my mother—one I was too young to fully grasp at the time. My mother was born in Japan and lived in Korea, and passed away in the United States.
one of the artworks chronicles my mother's diaspora, the immigrant vitality she embodies has been passed down to me; I have recorded these vivid memories alongside the sound of her voice. Although the piece is unframed, it is designed to be hung on a wall. Furthermore, my mother's voice has been preserved via a QR code—displayed alongside a caption—creating an experience where the viewer engages with the artwork while simultaneously listening to her voice.
