Artist Statement

When I paint my wish is to capture the beauty of the landscape that surrounds us. My artwork conveys my own sense of wonder as I contemplate the light, colour and patterns of nature that intersect with us as we move through this world, grounded in nature.
I find that I have always had a strong rapport with the landscape. My attention may be captured by a panoramic view of mountain tops, reflections dancing on the quiet water, or a spectacular sunset on the way to the grocery store.
Whether traveling near or far I take note of those moments that evoke a sense of beauty, contentment and sheer happiness and use them to inspire my work. I am often drawn to the sky, water, and rock that are such a big part of the Canadian experience. I snap photos incessantly and use sketches to guide me back in the studio. Playing with light, colour, and reflection, I paint in layers, creating a representational image, re-experiencing the glow I felt while enjoying the view.
