Artist Statement

As an expressive realist artist, I paint what I feel, not only what I see. For me, a portrait or figurative work isn’t about perfect likeness, it’s about truth, both mine and the subject’s.

Years of working in charcoal taught me to see light as language, to listen for what form and shadow whisper about who we are. Oil painting became the natural continuation of that search, allowing me a slower, more layered conversation with mystery and meaning.

Faces and figures are my language. They allow me to express the weight of being human, which falls somewhere between grief and grace, fear and surrender, beauty and ache. Through these subjects, I explore the tension between what we reveal and what we conceal, between our outward appearance and our inner truth.

My work is rooted in the discipline of the Old Masters, whose reverence for light and form continues to guide me. Yet I paint with a contemporary vocabulary, one that speaks less of perfection and more of presence. Each brushstroke is an attempt to bridge time, to hold together tradition and emotion, faith and doubt, the seen and the unseen.

At its heart, my work is a kind of prayer—a search for connection, belonging, and truth. Through paint, I ask what it means to be fully known and still loved, to remain human in all our frailty and radiance.
