Artist Statement

I have been making and thinking about art for a very long time. It is still not easy but it has become easier because I have been thinking less. I draw upon the abundance of local resources, the “natural” materials found close to home. Close observation of the environment yields plenty of material. It’s like writing a poem. The poem is not born fully realized rather constructed starting with one found word. The process begins when I discover an object that suggests some potential. Words are added and scratched away. The process continues with some editing and refinement before completion. And like a poem each piece suggests some meaning but it is best left for the viewer to make sense of it.
