In surveying nature from behind an easel in the outdoors or a domestic scene in my own kitchen I enjoy depicting the interplay of shape, light, and color and the balance between foreground and background. The outdoors presents more chaos and the whims of nature in amorphous shapes and changing light. The indoor scenes offer more control and hard edges. Both represent a search for stability and comfort in an increasingly chaotic world. Pastels provide an immediacy to be spontaneous and capture the fleeting moment.
