Artist Statement

I am a storyteller. As a photographer, it is my job to capture images compelling enough to tell stories without words. I believe that the images selected for this exhibit do just that.
The first two images are unique and duplication would be impossible. A foggy day at the beach is an uncommon event in the summertime. This image makes me wonder why is it foggy, and why is everyone in the image behaving as it is a normal day? People are fishing, visiting as they walk down the pier, and taking a family photo with a cell phone. The little girl with the horse is performing a very dirty job, yet she appears completely unaffected. In fact, she seems one with the horse in this moment. Is she? Or, is she a million miles away? The final image was taken at a market in Old City Istanbul. The tiny moccasins were all hand made by local artisans. I am curious about the craft. Who actually makes the shoes? Men? Women? Children? How long does it take and how do they get those amazing colors?
A photographer captures, in most cases, a singular moment. That particular time no longer exists. But a great image will draw the viewer into the moment as though it were the present. I believe that these images do just that.
