Joseph Annino
Artist Statement
Joseph Vincent Annino, signing his works as JoViAn, paints in a variety of mediums and styles, exploring memory through photographs, the expressiveness of nature, queer futurism fantasy, and combinations of these themes. For Joseph, painting is a process of memory, a retelling of the past or of dreams, lingering in that snapshot through the slow iterative reexamination and rebuilding of an image through layers and brushwork.
Living in Newtown, Connecticut, Joseph is largely self taught, and has been painting since around 2015. Seeking a counterpart to his career in computer programming, the finality of finished work of art provides a sense of comfort and accomplishment, while allowing exploration of process, mediums, and pigments. "I just wanted to do something I could finish". Joseph has exhibited at a wide range of juried shows in Connecticut in recent years
