Artist Statement

General Statement

I am a Stamford CT artist who has evolved tremendously from her Bushwick, Brooklyn roots.
I still hold on to my realism background but now have experimented with so many styles and mediums that I can only classify myself as Pure Emotion with a side of Reality. My art has evolved tremendously over the years from traditional lifelike realism to pure emotion and fantasy based on life experiences.
I work with many mediums including charcoal, soft pastel, oil pastel, inks, watercolor, gouache, acrylic and oil. Sometimes, I partner these mediums with resin, cloth, metal and other material. My work is certainly unique, sometimes colorful, and always memorable.

Statement Unique to Piece

Currently I have been drawn to bright, warm colors and layering with resin and varnish as seen in Symphony of The Storm. The sky is flat, the waves are raised. It is truly a sensory experience as you touch the surface you can actually feel the waves and movement

Commitment to Community

I am having fun and enjoy the pure pleasure of painting, experimenting, and sharing my work. It is the most amazing feeling to know that your creations are treasured and bring joy for all income levels. I believe that everyone deserves to own a piece of original art and am proud to be able to offer pieces in every price range.
My community is very important to me and am active in Glenbrook Neighborhood Association and Women’s Business Development Corporation. I frequently donate works and proceeds to local non-profit organizations in Connecticut including Women’s Business Development Council and Rising Starr Equine Rescue. Donations are also sent to equine rescues with every sale.

Professional Experience

My professional experience began by freelance consulting to various individuals, groups and local non profit organizations in Bushwick,
Brooklyn. In the 1990’s I taught various classes in drawing and water color through New York State Council on the Arts programs and have received both local and national awards for my work. Since moving to Stamford most of my work has been individually commissioned.

I am currently a member of the New Canaan Society for the Arts, Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, Sherman Artists and have shown my work throughout Connecticut including Rowayton Arts Center, Maritime Garage Gallery, Stamford Art Association, The Ferguson Library, The Carriage Barn and Great Hollow Nature Preserve. I am also a member of Saatchi Art, International Artists Network and Portrait Artists Society. I am the owner of Gigi Barrett Fine Art and Blue Eyed Dingo Designs and created the Women of Art Connecticut and Gallery for Art Sake Groups.
