Artist Statement
I process the exterior and interior worlds through creative making.
I employ highly tactile mediums such as ceramics, collage, and pen-and-ink drawings to visualize emotional landscapes and states of being. To me, surrealism supersedes realism in its ability to access what feels more truthful and real to me- what is unspoken and what is unseen. I take inspiration from human anatomy, dream states, minimalist aesthetics, and the intangible, fragmented nature of memory. With restraint in terms of color, elements, and composition, I focus on high contrast scenes that have a tension between what is in focus and what is blurred. Curiosity and a comfort with mystery are the only things I ask of viewers to my work.
