Artist Statement

Approach to Mixed Media Abstraction
As an intuitive, mixed media abstract artist, my creative process unfolds through the application of many layers using a variety of materials. Each new layer offers glimpses of those beneath, revealing a visual history as I respond instinctively to what emerges on the canvas. I engage with line, shape, color, and texture, utilizing unconventional tools that add excitement and unpredictability to my work. Often, I am surprised by the resulting imagery and ideas, which are never premeditated and could not be achieved through planning.

Embracing Spontaneity and Control
I welcome the dynamic interplay between control and spontaneity. The accidental mark is as significant to me as the intentional, deliberate line. This agile approach to art making encourages adaptability and openness to unexpected outcomes, which I view as essential to my practice.

The Impact of Intuition and Environment
By reacting intuitively during the creative process, I cultivate a sense of mental freedom and inner peace. Inspiration arises from my surroundings: the streets I traverse, moments spent in nature, and the flowers I tend. My art is directly influenced by my environment, personal memories, accumulated knowledge, and current mood, all which surface naturally while I work.
