ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Throughout my life, the making of art has been my path and the vehicle through which I express my inner self. My desire to capture beauty and truth through painting has driven my thoughts and shaped my life, urging me to see more clearly and work more skillfully in order to understand and accomplish my ever-expanding vision. The joy of being able to convey a mood, a sense of wonder, or a moment in time is the ultimate reward.

I paint in the style of photorealism, working in oil on smooth canvas with many layers of semi-transparent glazes. This technique is called “trompe l‘oeil,” ordinarily seen in the elaborate still life. I have translated this style into paintings which reflect my life experience and my enjoyment of nature. Although I have painted a variety of subjects, living along the California coastline for many years developed my fascination with painting seascapes, and I continue to travel to Northern California beaches and the Hawaiian Islands for inspiration.
