Artist Statement
I received my certification as a Botanical Watercolorist and Illustrator through the Morton Arboretum in 2015. I find that the biggest challenge in drawing/painting botanicals is to capture the subject before it changes or becomes withered, but sometimes this makes a whole different subject matter for a new drawing or painting.
I'm inspired painting flowers in any medium because of the variety of shapes and colors, and challenged with flower gardens and ponds. I also enjoy painting in different styles and whatever the mood is for the day or season. At times I paint landscapes very loosely using a 3 inch brush for foliage or background. At other times I will use a tiny 00 size watercolor brush for the details in botanical paintings. I become totally absorbed in the subject matter, whatever the tools or medium I'm using.
