Artist Statement

Portraits, landscapes and still life all intrigue me. The link is close observation of detail and analysis of form. I work in a traditional realist technique. This is an indirect method, building up a monochrome grisaille over which I gradually add color with both transparent glazes and full bodied color.It is a time consuming process. I enjoy the unique qualities it can give - it offers tonal variations impossible with other painting methods.
