Artist Statement
My bronze botanical sculptures are a melding of my love of plants, flowers and trees with my love of sculptural form and texture. Attending both an Art and Design School and a traditional Art Academy I attempt to create contemporary sculptures using traditional art making techniques.
My body of work consists of three-dimensional sculptures and sculptures in bas relief. Working in-the-round allows me to study all facets of a flower. I marvel at both the simplicity of form and the complexity and variation found in the botanical world. Bas relief sculpture is a challenging creation of three-dimensional space in an essentially two-dimensional plane.
The purpose of my work is to present to the world how all living things are interconnected. The essence of life in plants is no different than the essence of life in us. Artists work so they can show the world how they think in the hope someone will connect and be inspired. I hope people who see my sculptures will sense the essence of life I am trying to put forth, and that they will feel a peaceful simplicity and wonderous beauty that is part of all of us.
