Kathleen McNamee

Artist Statement

Kathleen McNamee earned third place in 1958 for a drawing of the dogwood tree in front of her family home. More than fifty years later, she finally enrolled in a drawing class and has assiduously pursued drawing, painting, and etching classes since that time. Each teacher has had a real influence on her work, and she is grateful to each of them for different gifts: Joyce Brienza, Kristin Beaver, Adrian Hatfield, Dan Keller, Carol La Chiusa, Jim Nawara, Josephine Primeau, Bette Prudden, Roselyn Rhodes, Maureen Vachon, Margi Weir, and Nobuko Yamasaki. She is a member of the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, the Detroit Artists' Market and the Grosse Pointe Art Association. Her work has won awards in exhibitions at DAM, Our Town, the Ann Arbor Art Center, the Lawrence Street Gallery, and the GPAA, and in 2010 the president of Wayne State University selected one of her oil paintings to hang in his office for the year. http://kathleenmcnamee.com
