Artist Statement
The visual language of my artwork centers on geometric abstraction and color inspired by a fascination with geometry’s unfolding in the history of humankind. Using geometric lines and shapes augmented with expressions of color connects me with humanity’s enduring quest to grasp and measure time and space, to ascribe meaning in a universe of infinite beginnings and endings. My creative acts place me in that continuous flow of responding to and questioning life’s mysteries.
As I draw and paint lines and plane shapes, my imagination expands, urged on by Euclid’s axiom of their potential to extend infinitely. I experience geometry as holding more than factual and relational description. A mix of conceptual and imaginative thoughts about geometry and color guide my creative output. Paintings of geometric shapes as place holders of thoughts extending beyond the restriction of the support, pointing to the unknown. Paintings symbolizing the attempts to construct understandings with no clear answers. Geometric drawings structuring possibilities to build on. Visuals that reflect unending variations, ambiguity, unity of differences, constant flux.
