Artist Statement

Lindsey Nicole (b. 2002, Baltimore) is an oil painter whose work centers on themes of female lineage, current feminist issues, and the complicated facets of womanhood. Her work blends paint, embroidery, and fabric, fueled by her interest in women’s material culture. The history of fabric art as a woman’s craft, its utility, and its use in protest informs her practice. She sources her materials from antique and thrift shops, repurposing doilies and fabrics made by often-unknown women to give the creations new meaning. Nicole paints with the traditions of Trompe L’oeil, Early Netherlandish art, and Surrealism in mind.

​​Nicole received her BFA from Towson University with a concentration in Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking. Her work has been exhibited at galleries such as Lancaster Art Vault in Lancaster, PA; York & Penn Gallery, Towson, MD; and Maryland Art Place, Baltimore, MD. She has received awards and grants, such as the Ro and Marius P. Johnson Scholarship Endowment Award and the Creative Inquiry Outstanding Project Award from Towson University. She currently lives and works in central Maryland, outside of Baltimore.
