Scott Rowley
Artist Statement
Scott Rowley is a contemporary artist based in American Fork, Utah. His work investigates color as a material and perceptual event, emphasizing the interaction of pigment, paper, and medium. Using rare and historical pigments alongside modern materials, he hand-mulls paint to bring forward the distinct physical qualities of each color.
Influenced by time spent living in Taiwan and studying traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, Rowley works primarily on absorbent Xuan paper, allowing line, bleed, and saturation to shape the image. His paintings foreground sensory experience, treating color as direct encounter rather than illustration
