Artist Statement

I create vibrant paintings that reflect the hoopla, chaos and beauty that make up life. Colorful marks and symbols alongside sweeping brush strokes, fluid curves and hard, craggy lines are exciting to me. Through the act of painting, I am able to explore multiple materials on a flat surface. My mind sees everything in motion, foreground / background, future / past, conflict and resolution; they are all colliding into this present moment. Several paintings highlight the delicacy and lightness of the surface in contrast to the materials applied to them.

I work intuitively, playing with spontaneity, relationships and surroundings. Fences, vines and links represent bindings and connections whereas the raw, open surfaces are the quiet and sacred spaces. There’s an ebb-and-flow I encounter when painting that seems to be a reflection of life. It’s my desire to create art that expresses nature’s joyful essence and the innate yearning for connection.
