Artist Statement

I am a fiber artist from Davenport, Iowa, currently based in Arizona. Specializing in yarn painting and crocheting, my work blends intricate craftsmanship with deep personal expression. As a Black Christian woman, my identity is integral to the themes I explore in my art, where I strive to celebrate the nuances of these intersecting experiences. My pieces often delve into the complexities of identity, spirituality, and cultural heritage, offering a visual language that is both intimate and powerful.
I graduated from Iowa State University, with a major in Interior Design and a minor in Entrepreneurship. This academic background shapes my artistic practice, allowing me to approach fiber arts with a unique perspective on space, structure, and design. Through my education, I am honing my ability to blend the tactile nature of fiber arts with the broader concepts of form and function.
The mission of my work, as expressed through my art and my platform, is captured in my mantra: "The mission of Kika is to embrace identity expression through our unique approach of resourcefulness, removing limitations from creativity." I seek to empower others to explore their identities without boundaries or economical limitations.
As I continue to grow both as an artist and as a young professional, I envisions a future where my work inspires others to embrace their authentic selves and to approach creativity with limitless imagination.
