Mackenzie Silk

Artist Statement

Mackenzie Silk is a sculptor and painter living in rural northeast Connecticut where she
finds inspiration and works on a horse rescue and farm. Her equine friends have been the subject
of many works, on paper as well as sculpturally. She has been an artist since childhood but it
wasn’t until taking studio classes at Eastern Connecticut State University that she found her love
for sculpture. With these horses as her larger than life inspiration, sculpture finally felt like the
perfect way to capture their brilliant personalities and magnificent spirit. To create her life size
horses she works primarily with welded steel, chicken wire, collected vines, twigs and other
natural materials. Mackenzie first exhibited her sculptures at the 2025 Senior Show at Eastern
Connecticut State University to display work made in her final year at the university. She also
exhibits at various art fairs and markets around New England, including the 2025 Art in the Park
at Roseland Park where she won the People’s Choice Award for her innovative technique in
sculpture. These community events have quickly become her favorite way to exhibit work, just
to see the joy and inspiration that her sculptures bring to other people.
