Artist Statement

I come from a long line of makers, and it seems I was born to explore and experiment. In my body of work I have experimented with tools, materials, and color-mixing to express my love of diversity in Nature. By contrasting organic forms with geometric shapes I remind the viewer of the importance of science in our understanding of Nature.

Many cultural influences appear in my paintings because I have lived in Japan, Iran, Cameroon, New Zealand, Somalia, The Dominican Republic, Austria, and Bolivia. Each of these countries has a rich tapestry of indigenous art that inspires me.

As soon as I begin a painting, it shows me how to proceed, one mark or brush stroke after another, layer by layer, until we both agree that it is finished. The process brings me much joy.
