Ku-Tsang Lin

Artist Statement

I was born in Taiwan. Growing up, I had a notable passion for art and enjoyed traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. Unlike most families in Taiwan, my parents encouraged me to attend art school and to be trained professionally in college, but I chose to pursue law while keeping art as a hobby and sanctuary. In my late twenties, I came to the United States for graduate school and work. For twelve years, I moved between Sacramento, St. Paul, Anchorage, and Portland, before I happily settled down in the Bay Area. My educational background was law, but I have been working in the Human Resources and Labor Relations fields since I graduated from law school. The last position I held was HR Leader of Kaiser Permanente in both Redwood City and South San Francisco. After viewing a local artist’s sculptures in 2012, I was inspired to enroll in a sculpture class at the Fort Mason campus of SF City College in approximately 2014. This was how I started my journey of figurative sculpturing, and I have enjoyed every minute of the classes since then. I retired in late 2024 to take care of a chronic medical condition. After my early retirement, I continued to indulge myself in the joy of sculpturing, and I joined the Advisory Board of the Fort Mason Artists hoping to support my fellow artists and the broader community which has supported me since I moved to the country.
