Sophie Chartier

Artist Statement

“After growing up with pencils in her hand, Sophie Chartier received her college degree in Fine Arts (Cégep de Trois-Rivières, Canada, 1999) and dabbled in animation and illustration in Montréal, Canada. After a 15 year art hiatus, she picked up watercolor in 2016 as a new challenge. Being naturally drawn to the local flora from Eastern Canada to Europe, then New York State and now California, botanical illustration was a natural progression in her artistic journey. Sophie is fascinated by the world of pigments and colors, and therefore she usually paints from a minimal palette of only 3 primaries and mixes all her colors from them.”
