Artist Statement

Bardo is a Tibetan word meaning “gap” or “intermediate state.” Most famously, it refers to what we experience in the period, or bardo, between death and rebirth, as described in The Tibetan Book of the Dead (Bardo Thodol). According to the book, the bardo between life and death offers a state of great opportunity for liberation as one’s goal is to recognize the true nature of reality and mind as well as to end suffering.
