The Artist’s Statement

Throughout my life I’ve enjoyed woodworking as an avocation, making furniture for myself as well as family and friends. Very few left over scraps of wood actually get thrown out from my shop. Various chunks may be too small for my larger projects, from which the “scrap” originally came (and my passion for the beauty of the wood doesn’t
allow me to just toss them into the trash). After requests for smaller items of my work, I found a use for these extras.

By re-sawing these pieces and putting them back together as book matched, I was able to
create a beautiful backdrop for shelves to display small artwork, photos, keepsakes, etc. These “sconces” and “towers” now compliment the traditionally designed furniture I’ve engineered. The unique characteristics of each piece of wood suggest the finished product. I simply finish nature’s work.
