Emilia Bingham
Artist Statement
As humans, we are not separate from the natural world around us. In this busy modern life we can have the tendency to forget this. My art is an attempt to bring us back to this theme: that we are not separate from nature, but a part of it. I am particularly drawn to the ocean, the fact that all life came from it, and the relationship we still have to it.
My work integrates linocut prints with fabric mixed media collage. I often start with the linocut as the subject of the piece and then build the scene around it using fabric, embroidery, beading, and found items. Each piece brings a sense of groundedness through the combination of technique and material and invites the viewer to slow down and contemplate their connection to the world around them.
