Vanesa Cabezas
Artist Statement
Vanesa is a sculptor whose main medium for the last 7 years has been ceramics, she also uses media such as woodworking and xylography. Her work seeks to re-interpret and disseminate traditional Latin American pottery, and everyday life and highlight the beauty of the migratory act that we as human animals have done throughout history in a personal and collective way. Vanesa creates characters based on the beauty of animal nature and the pre-Hispanic worldview of South America. With the mix of humans and birds, she seeks to create a bridge between the cultural, spiritual, and animal worlds of her ancestors and her daily life as an immigrant. Emphasized in an exaltation of freedom, from a corporal, geographic, and racial perspective.
