Artist Statement

As a native New Yorker who has traveled the world and resided in cities around the country, photography and art have been a constant in my life. My photography is inspired by a life long fascination with culture, art, and history.

I like art that blurs the lines between genres and categories. Working with a Digital SLR camera allows me to capture the world's colors, changing light and textures and make the overlooked extraordinary. Photoshop technology enables the images to be magically manipulated. Finally, pieces are printed on deep matte or watercolor paper to push the depth of texture, removing it a bit more from being a photograph.

Certain of my images explore the essence of a city that busy modern life often makes us miss. They describe personal and universal impressions of urban society. Some of my work concentrates on architectural details I've named UrbanScars - flowing lines & edges from aged buildings tar creating a thing of beauty on adjoining buildings. Age in both structures and people has always inspired me.

Art can change the way a person sees the world. My life has been influenced by a diverse range of painters, authors, and creatives. I'm fascinated by the way art moves us to think, feel, and act. I hope my art sparks viewers’ imaginations.
