Artist Statement

I create figurative ceramic work that is rooted in my ability to recognize patterns, beauty, and abnormalities in nature, and demonstrate them through clay. My work is rich in vibrant colors, working dually with realism and exploring how unrealistic portrayals of nature can enhance the viewer’s connection to reality. Textures and elaborate surface design bring movement to this work that enhances the animals and botany depicted in my work and brings viewers into the intensive process of making my artwork. The unique positioning of the figures are inspired by different folklore of humans and their connection to animals and plants that I enjoy, in addition to reflecting my own emotions and experiences. I want to continue to grow my skills on storytelling through my artwork in this program, and have the opportunity to exhibit my work to the public and make connections with more artists and professionals in the arts field.
