Artist Statement

My works are deeply rooted in the exploration of my heritage, my family, and the things we don’t often tell each other. Or, the things that simply get lost through generations. Using metal as my medium, and techniques as old as time, I try my hardest to reach out, relate to, honor, and communicate with those who are closest to me by blood, but often farthest by physical distance, age, culture, or native language. When words fail, or the topic is too uncomfortable, the recognition of the familiar architecture I reference in a piece, the symbols I recreate, or the techniques I use, become the connection and understanding between me and members of my family.
