Artist Statement

As a wife, a mother, a believer, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a citizen of the world– I am learning the beauty of a life lived “at pace.” I find meaningful symbolism in the process of creating my hand-stitched quilts: bits of color, pattern, and texture fitted together over time; sometimes it’s major portions joined together at once and stitched in a steady rhythm of forward momentum. Other times my work lies folded up and fallow for calendar week after calendar week while my attention turns elsewhere. Some days I only have energy, thread, or time for just 5 or 6 stitches… and that is all that is required for that moment.
Fiber work can mirror life’s rhythms, and if I can learn how to look slowly, to work slowly, to stitch slowly, to take the various bits of life and relationships as they come into my scope and incorporate them “at pace,” I believe I’m on a journey toward making room to better receive what life has to bring me.
