Artist Statement

Is planned obsolescence just a symptom of our times, or a sign of the need to rethink our relationship with technology? The development and use of future tools could benefit from historical processes and knowledge to shape a more sustainable, less immediate future. I consider that ceramic materials and their use preserve the atmospheric conditions that led igneous rock to spontaneous alchemy. In this sense, high-fire ceramics operate as a counter-temporal material, resisting the accelerated cycles of extraction, disposal, and replacement. As part of my practice, I explore deep time inherent to clays and oxides, and their relation to repetition in craft and worship. The turbine form is treated as a speculative body in constant circulation, where wear, repetition, and fatigue are visible. Through this approach, the work considers obsolescence not only as a technological condition, but as a cultural belief sustained through repetition and ritual.
