HAMIDEH SADEGHIEH
Artist Statement
Environment is the central force shaping my work. Growing up in the desert—where nature governs all—formed my sensitivity to form and detail. The visual uniformity and scarcity of textures in this landscape intensified my focus on small elements, gradually transforming the subject itself and leading my work toward abstraction.
The absence of the human figure in my paintings is a conscious choice, emphasizing passivity, solitude, and the fragile relationship between humans and their surroundings.
Following migration, my focus shifted to the urban environment—an entirely different spatial and existential system. Here, scale, height, shifting viewpoints, and depth alter perception. The contrast between nature and the city, and the transformation of natural materials into urban structures, is translated in my work into an abstract language of form and color. Painting, for me, is a process of observation and transformation—moving from representation toward the construction of a conceptual space.
