Artist Statement

My site specific practice grounded in luck and geography. Those sites:

1. The open sessions at the Art Student’s League of New York.
2. My home studio
3. My sketchbook

1. One site is rooted in observing.
2. The second site is rooted in imagination.
3. The third is rooted in the passage of time.

1. I live a mere five minutes walk from the Art Student’s League, where I have painted and sketched and drawn for over 20 years. I have no excuse not to be there almost daily.

2. I have a studio in my own home where I can take work started at the League and pull it and push it, albeit sometimes over a cliff. But it is a haven where I fail and succeed in equal measure and the voices in my head have no power over me.

3. I have had a sketchbook by my side since I was 10 years old and no one ever thought it was strange.

I am fully aware of how lucky I am and my art is that gratitude made manifest.
