Ryan Hamilton
Artist Statement
As a documentary style photographer, I am inspired by the world around me. I utilize film and digital format cameras to capture the Black and Brown Experience. With my background in Sociology, I believe it is my duty as a photographer to create authentic work of the times we currently live in today. I photograph with the intention of capturing, in frame, as precisely as possible to not tamper too much with the images created. My work is inspired by photographers like Jamel Shabazz, Marilyn Nance, and Gordon Parks, all whom created images that captured and told stories of everyday Black and Brown people from around the world whose stories usually go untold. The ultimate goal through my work is for people to feel “seen” for the richness and vastness of our culture and to know their importance in this world for simply being themselves.
