Artist Statement

Julia Barbour is an artist working in mixed media, guided by experimentation and intuition. Her practice explores the tension between curiosity and hesitation - the urge to search alongside the fear of what might be found. Through layered processes, she allows materials, marks and chance to shape her work, revealing forms that emerge beyond conscious control. She is drawn to ambiguity, where meaning is not fixed, but felt, often echoing fragments of nature and internal landscapes. By surrendering to the process, Julia creates spaces where uncertainty, doubt and quiet discovery coexist without resolution.
