Artist Statement

My collage work starts with the throwaways of our consumer culture: the glossy magazines, junk mail, newspapers, and bits of packaging that usually end up in the trash. These are the remnants of a world driven by image and excess. I do not see these scraps as neutral. They are loaded with intent: designed to seduce, to sell, to manipulate. Every color and every phrase was created to influence perception. By cutting them apart and reassembling them into works of art, I undo their original purpose and reveal the hidden truths that lie beneath the surface of our mass-media saturated world. I give them a second life, transforming them into something new, using their words to speak my own language. While creating these beautiful works, I aim to keep the rough edges of their origins exposed. What emerges is not seamless. It's fractured; a reflection of our culture glimpsed through the broken mirror of my perception, carrying within it both the persistence and impermanence of the materials themselves.
