Jose Mogollon
Artist Statement
José Luis Mogollón is a Venezuelan American mixed-media artist based in Houston, Texas. His work explores transformation through identity, memory, culture, and imagination.
Drawing inspiration from personal experience, Latin American traditions, and the landscapes and communities that surround him, Mogollón creates images that move between observation and invention. His figures—sometimes real, sometimes imagined—occupy spaces where cultural memory, personal reflection, and symbolic storytelling intersect.
Working across acrylic and pastel painting, collage, and digitally mediated processes, he is interested in moments when individuals move through moments of transformation: navigating multiple identities, confronting vulnerability, seeking freedom, or discovering unexpected possibilities. Landscapes, cities, and symbolic environments serve not merely as settings but as emotional and psychological territories through which these transformations unfold.
Whether inspired by ritual, everyday life, or imagination, his work invites viewers to reflect on change, resilience, belonging, and the ways people reinvent themselves through experience.
Art for your joy and wonder.
