Artist Statement

Ordinary scenes and the way light and color interact are the basis for my paintings. I begin a painting with what is in front of me, looking for the color shapes, the interplay between colors, and the contrasts between lights and darks. At a certain point in time, the painting takes over and what I'm seeing is not important, the painting is paramount, changes occur, maybe the colors are changed to fit the painting, maybe objects are removed, while others my be added. Then, the magic and joy of working with paint, begins.
