Artist Statement

The inspiration for my jewelry designs is the result of my appreciation of architecture, engineered objects and artifacts. Since age 12, this respect and admiration has been amplified by decades spent in various skilled-trades: mechanic, metal fabrication, carpentry, millwright, welding and furniture making.
In the early 1970's, I began my studies at Bucks County Community College and continued with classes at the Tyler School of Art and The College of New Jersey. At that time, I was fortunate to find mentors in Mark Lehman, Chuck Kumnick, and Ilse Johnson, all of whom helped sharpen my pottery and sculpture skills while encouraging my focus on architectural and structural aesthetics.
The genesis of my interest in jewelry was a class taken with Cris Martino at Bucks County Community College in 2008 while on a teaching sabbatical. Initially, I was fascinated with strong straight lines, perfect geometric shapes, and graceful curves in solid metal planes to create wearable forms. Most recently, experimentation with cold connections has enabled me to incorporate a variety of new materials and techniques that have enhanced my pieces.
Long intrigued by structure, mechanisms and function, I work to surprise the viewer through movable parts and multiple-changing perspectives. Hopefully, my designs and craftsmanship invite you to take a closer look, and wonder, "how was it done?"
I am a Bucks County, PA native. I received my B.A. in Art Education from The College of New Jersey with a concentration in Ceramics. I earned my Masters of Education in Design and Technology from The College of New Jersey. I was awarded a Fulbright Teacher Exchange to teach Design in England for the 1995-96 school year. I am a retired middle school teacher from the Neshaminy School District.
