Artist Statement

My work is about dementia and the effects it has on family. With this, I wanted to present the point of view of the patient's symptoms and the caretakers perspective on how the disease affected them.These portraits are of my family members who took the role of caretakers during my grandmother's experience as a dementia patient. The paintings depict the patient's lack of recognition through the usage of visual distortion. The disintegration and blurring of figures expresses the destructive nature of dementia.
