Artist Statement

By night I paint. By day I’m a technical artist in the video games industry. In both roles I’m interested in studying how light interacts with the world and how we understand the world through perceiving the effects of light. My practice in traditional media allows me space to engage with the craft and tradition of representational art as well as space for a deeper investigation into the emotional aspects of perception. I’m currently primarily interested in portrait and figurative work, through which I can study our experience as social beings: how we think and feel about ourselves, how we present ourselves to others, how we see and want to see, how we are seen and want to be seen.
