Artist Statement

Human bodies have always been interesting artistic subjects to me. Through painting, I hope to find how interactions between colors, line, texture, and tone, can be used to create a sense of tension, emotion, and movement within a figurative piece. Whether real or imagined, a depiction of an interaction between a person and their environment becomes a narrative. I am interested in the way these sometimes-ambiguous scenes can allow the viewer to interpret and identify with the subject uniquely. In my work, I am also interested in exploring how we identify with our bodies and how our relationship with ourselves is warped by external pressures.
