Artist Statement

A lifelong maker, I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands – exploring mediums, tools, and techniques with a focus on integrating fine art with fine craft. I primarily create encaustic collage and abstract paintings. Born in a post-industrial city, my early life was surrounded by structures that previously housed factories, coal mines and steel mills. These themes of industry and labor often surface in my pieces. My collages are built with images I've photographed and illustrated, then fused in layers with encaustic wax. I love the handcrafting process of heating and manipulating encaustic medium to create levels of translucency and depth.
